What are the levels of bulletproof standards?
In today's special international environment, bulletproof insert plates (also known as bulletproof plates or bulletproof sheets) are highly valued by people. However, there are various types of bulletproof insert plates on the market, and their performance varies greatly. Based on materials, processes, and other factors, common bulletproof insert plates can be divided into three categories: steel bulletproof insert plates, polyethylene bulletproof insert plates, and ceramic bulletproof insert plates. These three types of insert plates have their own advantages and disadvantages, and they also need to be comprehensively considered when selecting. When selecting bulletproof insert boards, the three key attributes to pay attention to are weight, price, and bulletproof ability (i.e. bulletproof level). Today, we will analyze and compare the three types of bulletproof insert boards from these three aspects.
Before analyzing and comparing, let's first have a brief understanding of the bulletproof level. There are two commonly used bulletproof level standards in China, one is the American standard NIJ 0101.06, and the other is the Chinese GA 141-2010 standard. Below, we will introduce the specific measurement standards and requirements of these two standards.
US NIJ 0101.06 standard:
The NIJ 0101.06 standard was developed by the National Institute of Justice in the United States to address the needs of law enforcement agencies for bulletproof vests. The latest 6th edition of the standard was formulated in 2008 and will be replaced by the NIJ 0101.07 standard in 2021. This national standard is currently widely known internationally, and the NIJ standard has the deepest depth of back indentation among all standards.
The depth of the concave back should not exceed 1.73inch/44mm.
Type IIA: Can block 9 * 19mm round nose FMJ bullets and. 40 S&W FMJ bullets.
Type II: capable of blocking 9 * 19mm round nose FMJ bullets and. 357 Magnum JSP bullets.
Type IIIA: capable of blocking. 357 SIG flat nose FMJ and. 44 Magnum SJHP rounds.
Type III: Capable of blocking 7.62 * 51mm FMJ (US military code M80) bullets.
Type IV: Can block. 30-06 M2 armor piercing shells.
Note:
Depth of back indentation: The depth of the back indentation of the bulletproof clothing after being deformed by the impact of a bullet. The smaller the depth, the better the bulletproof ability.
FMJ/FMSJ shell: All metal armor shell, a type of ordinary bullet.
JSP/SJSP shell: A semi armored soft tip shell, also known as a "dam shell", is a type of ammunition that sacrifices armor piercing performance in exchange for its lethality against soft targets (humans).
JHP/SJHP projectile: A semi armored air point projectile, similar to the Dams but with a stronger soft target killing ability than the Dams.
FMS bullet: All metal pointed bullet, a German pistol bullet with a conical warhead that has stronger armor piercing ability.
Chinese GA 141-2010 standard:
On October 17, 2010, the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China issued the GA 141-2010 police bulletproof vest standard, which replaced GA 141-2001. It standardized the types of bullets used during testing and modified the requirements for the protective area of bulletproof vests. The specific content will not be elaborated here.
The depth of the concave back shall not exceed 25mm.
Level 1: capable of blocking 7.62 * 17mm lead pistol bullets.
Level 2: capable of blocking 7.62 * 25mm lead core pistol bullets.
Level 3: 7.62 * 25mm lead pistol cartridge capable of blocking the firing of a Type 79 submachine gun with a long barrel.
Level 4: 7.62 * 25mm steel core pistol cartridge capable of blocking the firing of a Type 79 submachine gun with a long barrel.
Level 5: capable of blocking 7.62 * 39mm Type 56 ordinary bullets.
Level 6: capable of blocking 7.62 * 54mm Type 53 ordinary bullets
